7 am on a Sunday morning on Mount Road in Chennai .This band of boys are up early and they do not seem too excited. Probably the wedding season is keeping them busy .
Hi Laksmi, Nice collection of photos. I also have a travel blog on Indian tribes. Hope you enjoy reading it. Also let me know if you are willing for a mutual link exchange.

Ahhh, i remember once seeing a group of such band players around 10pm near GN Chetty road barista.. gen struck up a conversation…
they were going home after a reception and had a wedding in the morn around 7 at some god foresaken place… they dont make that much either… the one thing i remember was the face of an old tired band member… he has been doing this all his life!!!
Priyank – 🙂 me too..are you missing home or is it just observation ? if its the latter, its only of late I have started looking at these little things and they do give a different perspective completely.
Vishesh – 🙂 good it made you smile
Ropi – That is really interesting..these guys must probably feel like soldiers themselves
Chinnaa – Welcome to backpacker and thanks..will visit for sure
I am – They left quite soon Tanu..Im sure they are paid peanuts and its sad because they do their best to entertain ..
Mitr – I guess they will never go obsolete, but they definitely need more attention.
Sameera – So true..I felt the same way ..they really go all out to entertain
Alok – haha ..that was a good one
Pete – True, but they dont look too excited ..thats the irony
GG – 🙂 Im sure its the prospect of low pay and working on a Sunday
Mridula – As a kid, I have seen hazaar weddings and baaraats everyday going past my house…one even started from my house..and its such a common sight during the wedding season.. now immersions during ganesha have also made them busy
Jeevan – This was shot in August before Ganesha ..but im sure these guys play there as well during the immersions

Back home, we call it the the traditional ‘country band’..hehe!
There’s going to be a wedding in the family in a couple of months in Mangalore and I believe one such band has been already hired for one of the pre-wedding nights of fun and frolic!
Haha, I can almost hear their music!! wow, so many little things I miss!
lol 😛
In Hungary the elegant dress of the soldiers looked like those a bit.

Nice shot..did you get a chance to speak to any of them?
I happen to speak to one such group few years and was shocked to know how much they get paid and how little of what they wear they own!
Nice to know that band artists are still around these days, you would think that they have gone obsolete.
They make others dance but they don’t look even a bit excited.Tough life!
*** Kiski band bajegi ?
dulheraje ki 😀
Very brighty coloured uniforms.
Maybe they’re bogged down by the idea of having to wear that costume in the blistering Chennai heat as the day progresses!
I thought South India had less of this type of Band Baja but then i must be completely wrong!
I guess these band used in procession of ganesh idol to immersion!

Indrani – Peanuts !
That’s an unusual colour for an uniform. I’ve usually seen them wear red.
There are so many of them…In the North you can see them most during the wedding season…probably a tradition the British brought to India.
niceeeeee
