Grams sold outside the Azhagar (Alagar )temple dedicated to Vishnu near Madurai . This is bought by devotees and served to the Gods.. I asked why and no one answered..
Apt title for this post, perhaps the temple varalaru may be that serving these grams to Alagar may bring prosperity, do away with diseases, something along those lines etc.
Hi Lakshmi! Sorry for the delay in coming here, but these last weeks have been hectic; no, I’m not talking about the financial/economic crisis… ;)) Anyhow, why do the Gods need all those grams? 😉 Blogtrotter is now on its 200th post: «The Libyan Sea»! Hope you enjoy! Have a great weekend! Gil
Oh my! what would they do with all that grams?

I guess there are many more such interesting yet unanswered things are present in other temples too 🙂
I am curious to know if you are able to get an answer for your question?
seriously a BIG sigh!
God! would be in pain to see this!
Just a thought? Are they recycled…
what happens when the gods don’t eat the grain?
Surely all this must be cooked and served to temple visitors? I shudder to think of any other use for it.
Kamini.
After the offerings and ceremonies are over, they are offered to the poor I guess.
Huge quantity!
I always wonder what happens with the grains after the Gods have eaten their full…
I like how you composed the photo…with the man sitting behind the flood of grain. When you find out the answer to your question, do share. 🙂
mmm…interesting culture…
Wow! That’s an amazing photo (and a lot of chana)…
